Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The Kiewit Eurovia Vinci (KEV) Partnership are completing construction on the Confederation Line Extension (Ottawa Stage 2) LRT Project. The project includes up to 3.4 km of cut and cover tunnels within the urban center. Brierley Associates provided temporary support of excavation system designs for various segments of the open-cut trench excavation through soils and rock. This paper will focus on the Parkway Zone 12 and Zone 13a segments of the project where the open-cut trench extends up to 12 m below grade through glacial till, sands and clay. Due to complex logistical constraints for the segment of the open cut excavation, the designers and contractor collaborated and provided a unique design solution to meet the project needs. Logistical constraints for this segment included temporary and permanent ROW restrictions, accommodations for existing and proposed utilities (with several crossing the excavation at high skew angles), and traffic sequencing. The SOE system needed to account for stringent hydraulic cutoff requirements, utility crossings, limited bracing options due to tight ROW limits, and existing shallow foundation infrastructure adjacent to the excavation.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
