El desarrollo de los medios de comunicación demanda hoy que la competencia mediática de los niños sea entendida como una variable más en el diseño curricular. Esta afirmación parte del diagnóstico realizado de los niveles competenciales del alumnado de cuarto de Educación Primaria en Andalucía en relación a los medios de comunicación. Los resultados obtenidos muestran unos niveles adecuados de competencia; sin embargo, hay aspectos como el conocimiento de profesiones vinculadas a los medios o las fases de producción de una película que disminuyen estos niveles. La conclusión fundamental es la necesidad de una alfabetización sistematiza en los centros educativos.
