Abstract
The chapter provides an introduction to the study of morphology in Chalcidoidea, with reference to its use in the inference of evolutionary history. A comprehensive review of the external morphology of chalcidoids details structures of the head, mesosoma and metasoma, provides a standardized set of morphological terms and abbreviations to be used throughout the book, and includes extensive illustrations of representative structures. The primary literature on chalcidoid morphology is summarized in a table.
