Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze mothers’ knowledge about the natural breastfeeding. Breast milk is undoubtedly the healthy food with all the necessary nutrients for the full development of a child. However, different problems can sometimes arise due to various circumstances. Therefore, this issue is one of the most important nowadays. The aim of the paper is to analyze mothers’ knowledge about the natural breastfeeding. The goals of the paper are to reveal mothers’ attitude towards the breastfeeding; to evaluate the benefits of natural breastfeeding for a mother and a child; to analyze mothers’ knowledge about the natural breastfeeding and to solve the relevant problems. The qualitative research was carried out in Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos the Children’s Hospital Newborn Department. The research lasted from 14th October till 31st October, 2019. It included 50 respondents. Conclusions. After revealing mothers’ attitude towards the natural breastfeeding it is clear that all mothers admit, breastfeeding corresponds to the concept of natural nourishment. More than a quarter of respondents are of the opinion that it is necessary to breastfeed a baby with natural food for up to 6 months and more. The quarter of the respondents think that it is easily digestible and absorbable food. What is more, the breastfeeding prevents from diseases and infections. Considering the benefits of breastfeeding for a mother and a child it is clear that mothers have no doubt in this point. Half of them think that it is the healthy food. A quarter of the respondents admit that the biggest benefit of breastfeeding is the protection of different infections. Moreover, it is the easily digestible and absorbable food. The respondents do not doubt about the benefits of breastfeeding for their health. A quarter of them are sure that it stops the bleeding. Some respondents believe that breastfeeding prevents from osteoporosis. After analyzing mothers’ knowledge about the natural breastfeeding and the problems that may occur and their solutions it is clear that more than a half of the respondents do not have any difficulties at all. Less that a half of the respondents say that one of the problems may be the excess of milk. Some mothers point out that the problems for them are hard and sore breasts, deformed and painful nipples, lack of milk. The biggest part of the respondents search for the information about the breastfeeding on the internet.
