Paper Contents: the paper contains four parts: 1. Resocialization. 2. Overview of regulatory acts, governing the activities of resocialization department in places of detention. 3. Research and study of the process of resocialization of detainees during their serving of the sentence. Problem: Preparation of the detainees for life after their release starts in places of detention. The most important task is to prevent a backslide of the criminal offence. In order to ensure the latter, a resocialization work shall be performed in prisons. However, more than one quarter of the released persons go back to prison as they cannot find their place in our community. Research methods: A quantitative method of research – a survey where the information was received anonymously, as well as theoretical methods of research (analysis of scientific literature and other sources, analysis of regulatory acts, analysis of Internet sources) has been used to achieve the objective, set in the research. Research base: The survey has been conducted in Riga Central Prison, where nearly 25% of all the persons, serving their sentences for the committed crimes, are detained. Paper Results: The process of resocialization of detainees during their serving of the sentence has been analyzed and explored.
