Dört ciltlik, toplam 1941 sayfalık uzun bir anlatı olsa da, bir insanı anılarıyla anlatmak mümkün değildir. Aleksandros Rizos Ragavis çok yönlü bir kişilikti ve ilk ve son sekiz yılı hariç, 1809’dan 1892’ye kadar neredeyse 19. yüzyılın tüm yıllarını yaşadı. Yaşamının bu 84 yılı boyunca insanların hayatında olduğu kadar, tüm dünya halklarının tarihinde de dünya çapında tarihi değişimler yaşandı. “Köken itibariyle bir Fenerliyim” cümlesiyle başlayan Anılar’ı, Yunancada başlığı Apomnimonevmata, adlı kitabında İstanbul’un Arnavutköy semtinde doğduğunu ve babasının görev yaptığı Eflak Prensi Aleksandros Soutsos’un maiyetinde, 1813-1821 yılları arasında Bükreş ve Braşov’da çocukluk yıllarını geçirdiğini öğreniyoruz.
