Abstract
Background. Burn injuries cause one of the most intense and prolonged types of pain. Standard burn care involves a series of daily aggressive procedures that stimulate nociceptive afferent fibres for a prolonged period following injury and may contribute to development of chronic pain. Objective. To investigate chronic pain in burn survivors following 6 months after injury: incidence, quantitative and qualitative characteristics, health-related quality of life and daily activity. Methods. A cross-sectional study. Standard McGill Pain Questionnaire (Lithuanian version), Numeral Analog Pain Intensity Measuring Scale (NAS) and Health-related Quality of Life (SF-36) questionnaire were sent by mail to burn victims treated in a single burn unit during the period of 01/06/2008 30/04/2009. Sociodemographic data, injury data, the type and number of surgical interventions, complications (wound infection, pneumonia etc.) were obtained from case histories and questionnaires. [...].
