Abstract
Eski dünya karalarının orta yerinde yer alan Anadolu, savaşlar ve göçler için bir geçiş noktası olduğu gibi, tarih boyunca hep bir tampon bölge olarak varlığını sürdürmüştür. Ayrıca yoğun bir yerleşime sahne olan Anadolu, sayısız ulus, kültür ve medeniyete beşiklik yapmış ve sürekli olarak el değiştirmiştir (Yıldız, 2002: 70). Bu durum Anadolu’daki medeniyetler tarafından kurulmuş olan birçok yerleşim yerinin varlığına da kanıt niteliğindedir. Bu yerleşim yerlerinden biri olan Doğubeyazıt kenti, hem sahip olduğu konum itibariyle hem de sosyo-kültürel ve siyasi özellikleriyle tarih boyunca sürekli gündemde kalan bir kent olmuştur. Uzun bir süre Ağrı ve Iğdır illerini de kapsayacak şekilde vilayet merkezi olan bu kentin tarihsel gelişimini bilmek, Ağrı ve Iğdır illerinin tarihine ışık tutması bakımından önemlidir. Bu çalışmada Doğubeyazıt kentinin tarihsel süreç içerisinde geçirmiş olduğu yapısal ve nüfus gelişimine, tarihi ve kültürel geçmişine açıklık getirilmeye çalışılmıştır.
