Voor het (hydro)geologisch model H3O-Peelhorst & Venloslenk is een correcte weergave van de breuksystemen in de ondergrond van groot belang voor de bepaling van de geometrie van watervoerende en slecht doorlatende lagen. In het modelgebied, welke is weergegeven in Figuur 1A, komen drie hoofdbreuksystemen voor en een groot aantal - daaraan gerelateerde -secundaire breuken.De zuidwestelijke helft van het modelgebied wordt gevormd door de Peelhorst. Deze wordt in het zuidwesten begrensd door de Peelrandbreuk en aan de noordoostzijde door de Tegelenbreuk. Ten noordoosten daarvan ligt de Venloslenk, die nabij de Duitse grens wordt afgebakend door de Viersenbreuk, tevens de oostgrens van het modelgebied. De genoemde breuken bestaan uit diverse breuksegmenten. Daarnaast komen veel secundaire breuken voor die ook weer kunnen bestaan uit diverse segmenten. Tevens is er sterke variatie tot hoe ondiep de breuken - vanuit de diepte - richting het maaiveld doorlopen.
