Relevance: 84% of population experience low back pain. 44 -78% of the people suffer from low back pain. Low back pain reduces spinal and core muscles function, decline patient‘s functional abilities, even the loss of working capacities and quality of life. Although there are studies available of yoga effectiveness in chronic low back pain treatment, there is lack of research on effectiveness of specific yoga exercise. The object of the thesis - effectiveness of yoga exercises in chronic low back pain management. Aim of the thesis - to assess effectiveness of yoga exercise in chronic low back pain management. Goals of the thesis - review scientific literature about physiotherapy and yoga in chronic low back pain management, to evaluate subjects’ pain, functional disability, trunk muscles static endurance, mobility of forward spine flection changes. At the time of study the subjects with nonspecific low back pain assessment was performed in the beginning and after training. Participants of the study were divided into two groups. 10 subjects of the first group performed physiotherapeutic exercises and 10 subjects of second group performed yoga exercises. Analysis of scientific literature about physiotherapy and yoga in chronic low back pain management was used. VAS test was used to evaluate pain intensity, the Oswestry disability index scale – functional disability level, Biering‘s and McGill‘s test used for trunk muscles static endurance, fingers tips- floor test for forward spine flexion mobility. Results of the study. The scientific literature indicates that chronic low back pain reduces: spinal and core muscles, capacity and ability to coordinate movements of vertebra, person‘s functional capacities. Usually in physiotherapy exercises for spinal stabilization, flexibility, balance, overall body strengthening and relaxation are applied. Pain intensity and functional disability decreased, static endurance of trunk muscles and spine flexion mobility increased in both groups. However better results were founded in second group. There were more visible changes within the first group: the decrease of disability in self-care and walking, and trunk muscles static endurance ratio approximation to standard. No differences for sleep dysfunction results changes were found in between groups. Practical application of study results. By knowing effectiveness of yoga exercise in chronic low back pain management, yoga exercises can be used in physiotherapy exercise program.
