Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The idea that teachers ought to control their students and be controlled by their supervisors still permeates elementary school culture. Women teachers who use their authority to teach "against the grain" (Cochran-Smith, 1991; Simon, 1992) may be subject to negative behaviour from students and others. This study explored teachers' authority through interviews and observations of five women teachers in two elementary schools in Ontario. It found that students complied with most teachers' requests and student resistance was most often viewed as problematic. Boys and girls sometimes resisted in different ways, and teachers did not often engage to find out why students resisted. This study found that teachers were concerned about lack of consultation by administrators. Participants' attempts to raise issues through dialogue with administration provoked conflict and resistance. These findings suggest that teaching teachers to engage constructively with conflict might increase the possibilities in teaching for democratic citizenship.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
