Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

To support the growing population of people with dementia in Canada, technologies are being developed to assist with the completion of activities of daily living. A Markov decision process (MDP) based planning system was designed for a device that guides people with moderate-to-severe dementia through the activity of handwashing. The effectiveness of the MDP system was evaluated through an efficacy study by 30 professional caregivers. Participants observed and rated three scenarios of an actor portraying dementia being guided through handwashing by a human caregiver and three scenarios guided by the MDP system. Human guidance was rated statistically significantly higher than MDP guidance, however, based on qualitative data, participants were unaware that computer guidance was involved. Several limitations of the current system have been identified which require improvement in future stages of research. This research has shown that MDPs can potentially be applied to the guidance of activities of daily living.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
