Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The underlying structure of attitude questions on Student Questionnaire accompanying the School Achievement Indicators Program (SAIP) Science Assessment (1999) is investigated. An exploratory factor analysis is employed to analyse data from 13- and 16-year-old Ontario Anglophone students. Results support a six-factor model for both age groups. The factors for the 13-year-old students are interpreted as: (1) interest in and liking of school, (2) importance of and interest in science, (3) external locus of control, (4) extracurricular activities, (5) peer interaction, and (6) parental involvement. The interpretation of the model for the 16-year-old students is similar with the exception that items representing a combination of internal locus of control and engagement form a distinct factor and items related to extracurricular activities do not. The dimensions revealed by the exploratory factor analysis represent similar constructs to those conceptualized by the Council of Ministers of Education Canada in developing the questionnaire.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
