Abstract

El trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar una prospección etnográfica de las iglesias evangélicas existentes  en la ciudad de Manizales, a partir del registro, reconocimiento y clasificación de las diferentes  denominaciones. La información obtenida mediante encuestas y entrevistas presenta, en primer lugar,  indicadores generales sobre el aumento del número de estas iglesias en las últimas seis décadas y su  creciente expansión en la ciudad. En segundo lugar, se expresan algunos rasgos generales acerca del  significado de la experiencia de la conversión religiosa, a partir de testimonios recogidos en el trabajo de  campo. En tercer lugar, el artículo señala a manera de hipótesis general aquellos factores sociales, globales y  locales, que han podido incidir en el auge de las iglesias evangélicas en Manizales. Para concluir se hacen  algunas sugerencias acerca de posibles temáticas de interés que permitan hacer seguimiento al fenómeno y  profundizar en su análisis.
