Cell-scale Microrobotic Grippers with Reversible and Precise Magnetic Actuation for Study of Cellular Mechanosensitivity
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Cellular mechanosensing and response analysis is important towards understanding disease response and improving cell and tissue engineering, and microgrippers are a useful tool for exerting controllable forces on single cells. However, existing microgripper technologies for cellular characterization or manipulation are either bulky, imprecisely controlled, or difficult to manufacture. In this thesis, a cell-scale (approximately 20 µm width), magnetically-actuated microgripper with reversible and precise actuation for cellular mechanosensing research is developed. By creating a cell-scale device, a large number of microgrippers can be manufactured at one time and in a small area, increasing experimental throughput, scalability, and cost-efficiency of manufacturing. Experimental studies measure the force output and compare the results to a theoretical model, demonstrate reversible actuation, and demonstrate grasping applications. This device may serve as a new tool for cellular mechanosensing research, enabling higher throughput and accelerating scientific understanding of cellular mechanosensitivity.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
