Abstract
This thesis deals with the theme of feminism in Margaret Atwood's short stories. In order to better address the issue, the first part of the paper provides a brief historical overview of feminism, and introduces the four existing feminist waves. Following the theoretical discussion on feminism, the paper presents the life and work of Margaret Atwood, the Canadian author whose novels and short stories are characterized by the feminist elements and narration from the female point of view. Through the feminist lens, it analyzes the themes of three short stories, "I Dream of Zenia With the Bright Red Teeth", "Bad News", and "Stone Mattress", and tries to situate the author within the four existing waves of feminism. In addition, particular attention is given to the analysis of gender stereotyping of the old age, a problem which remains unaddressed or completely omitted from most contemporary feminist discourses. Finally, the paper provides translation of the three short stories into Croatian, and by offering a brief exploration of correlation between feminism and translation, gives reasons why this is not an example of feminist translation.
