Abstract
En Promoción de la Salud la estrategia IEC –Investigación, Educación, Comunicación–, fortalecida por la Carta de Ottawa en 1986, es de gran importancia dado que con la comunicación en salud se establecen vínculos y se hacen circular sentidos, significados y discursos, e indiscutiblemente su accionar permite llegar masivamente a las diferentes audiencias. La prensa, al igual que otros medios de comunicación de masas, ha ocupado un lugar privilegiado dentro de las sociedades. El conocimiento de las noticias relacionadas con la salud y los servicios sanitarios, su contenido, sus interrelaciones y sus determinantes son importantes en Salud Pública para desarrollar una cultura de la salud. Informar y educar en ese abanico tan amplio de temáticas relacionadas con la salud, potencialmente impactar los conceptos, las decisiones y las acciones de los individuos, la población en general, la comunidad médica y los tomadores de decisiones de políticas públicas y también de manera amplia aumentar la capacidad para gestionar la salud.
