Abstract
Suomen sosialidemokraattinen nuorisoliitto oli vuosien 1906–1923 aikana toiminut vasemmistolainen nuorisojärjestö, jonka toiminnan tavoitteena oli suomalaisen nuorison tiedottaminen työväenoikeuksista sekä vasemmistolaisista yhteiskunnallisista tavoitteista. Yksi liiton keskeinen pyrkimys oli antimilitaristisen aatteen levittäminen. Tämä tutkimus käsittelee liiton antimilitaristisen valistustyön ilmenemistä vuosina 1910–1917 liiton kirjoittamien toimintakertomusten perusteella. Liiton suorittama antimilitaristinen valistustyö voidaan jakaa joko suulliseen tai kirjalliseen agitaatioon. Suullisen agitaation keskiössä oli liiton kiertelevät agitaattorit, ketkä levittivät puheiden kautta liiton antimilitaristista sanomaa. Liiton kirjallinen antimilitarismi toimitettiin liiton kustantamien kirjojen kautta, joita levitettiin sekä agitaattorien että liiton piirien toimesta. Ensimmäisen maailmansodan sotavuodet aiheuttivat hankaluuksia liiton hyvässä alussa olleelle antimilitaristiselle valistustyölle. Sotasensuuri, väestönliikkuvuus sekä liiton huono taloudellinen tilanne kavensi antimilitaristisen valistustyön suorittamismahdollisuuksia. Vuonna 1917 toiminta helpottui Venäjällä tapahtuneen helmikuun vallankumouksen sekä tästä johtuneen yhteiskunnallisen muutoksen seurauksena, jolloin antimilitaristista valistustyötä haitanneet rajoitukset löysenivät. Sisällissodan alkaessa vuonna 1918 liittotoimikunta ei ollut valmistellut virallista toimintaohjetta sodan varalle. Tämän seurauksena liiton näkemys suhteessa aseelliseen toimintaan oli epäröivää, eikä virallista ohjetta aseistettuun toimintaan tullut liiton osalta.
