This research study seeks to explore the potential implementation of digital humanities at HBCUs, making the argument that digital humanities not only strongly aligns with the institution’s unique histories, but also helps the HBCU produce graduates that can be leaders in equitable digital transformation. Through a qualitative interview study with Gen Z students at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, this thesis ultimately proposes a framework for doing digital humanities work at HBCUs that both embraces its strengths as an institution and adapts to the specific needs of students in the current digital landscape.
