Towards Transformation, Engaging Feminist Theologies of Sexuality, Suffering and Forgiveness with Survivor Narratives

Abstract
In this dissertation, I argue that contemporary feminist theologians and pastoral care practitioners offer theological models and pastoral care praxis that can support both eschatological hope and concrete supports to adult female survivors of sexual assault. I analyze the works of major feminist contemporary theologians and care practitioners through the narratives of sexual assault survivors in the areas of sexuality, suffering and forgiveness. I contend that Christian sexual ethics, theologies of suffering and forgiveness must listen to both survivors’ voices and feminist theory to adequately address the abuses of power from patriarchy, racism, and other interlocking oppressions. My hope is these theologians and emerging theologies can provide accessible and effective spiritual care for survivors of sexual violence.
