Abstract
Effective feed additives for healthier weaned pigletsFor the millions of piglets raised on Canadian farms, the weaning period, transitioning from sow's milk to dry feed, can cause stress and affect the piglets' immunity and health.For decades, producers have been adding antibiotics to piglets' feed as a preventive measure to control disease.Over time, this practice has led to the development of antibiotic resistance in various intestinal bacteria, making treatments less and less effective.Around the world, efforts are being devoted to developing solutions to reduce or eliminate the use of antibiotics.As part of this global push, some AAFC scientists assessed feeding strategies aimed at strengthening the immune system of weaned piglets.They found that using a combination of feed additives is a promising approach that appears to boost piglets' immunity.
