Le stock de morue franche (Gadus morhua) du nord du golfe du Saint-Laurent (OPANO 3Pn4RS) se situe en deçà de son point de référence limite. Compte tenu des nouvelles disposition relatives aux stocks de poissons qui sont entrées en vigueur par voie de règlement en avril 2022, cela implique que Pêches et Océans Canada (MPO) est légalement tenu d’élaborer un plan de rétablissement pour ce stock. Un plan de rétablissement comprend plusieurs éléments, dont bon nombres sont définis ou étayés par des informations et des analyses fournies par le secteur des Sciences du MPO. Plus précisément, il relève de la compétence du secteur des Sciences du MPO de fournir des options scientifiquement défendables pour une cible de rétablissement et un échéancier de rétablissement (Tmin), d’évaluer la probabilité d’atteindre les objectifs et les délais de rétablissement en fonction de différentes options de gestion des pêches proposées, d’identifier les indicateurs permettant de suivre les progrès du rétablissement et d’orienter les décisions pour l’examen périodique du plan de rétablissement. L’examen par les pairs de ces nouveaux éléments et analyses est une étape importante pour garantir qu’ils constituent la meilleure science possible sur la base des données, des ressources et du calendrier disponibles à leur développement.
