La démographie du Canada change et la proportion de personnes de 65 ans et plus pourrait atteindre 29,8 % d’ici 2068. Notre objectif est de comprendre le contenu des politiques publiques qui favorisent l’activité physique de loisirs ou de transport dans les pays où les personnes âgées sont parmi les plus actives. Le « Global observatory on physical activity » et les « Physical activity fact sheet » de l’OMS ont permis l’identification de ces pays et un cadre conceptuel élaboré à partir d’une revue rapide de la littérature a soutenu une analyse de contenu dirigée de 35 documents gouvernementaux et une douzaine de documents de l’OMS, des Nations Unies et de l’OCDE. L’analyse narrative a été utilisée pour dégager les principaux constats. Les thèmes récurrents sont : - Utilisation de l’activité physique dans le système des soins de santé. - Politiques du sport et plein air qui ciblent les personnes âgées. - Planification urbaine qui facilite le transport actif et adapté et la proximité des espaces verts. - Promotion de la participation sociale pour le maintien de l’autonomie et l’indépendance. Il importe conséquemment de recadrer la promotion de l’activité physique en vue d’augmenter l’espérance de vie en bonne santé.
