Abstract
Le Comité sur la situation des espèces en péril au Canada (COSEPAC) a désigné le chat-fou du Nord (Noturus stigmosus) comme une espèce en voie de disparition au Canada. Ce document présente une modélisation de la population pour évaluer l’incidence des dommages causés et établir des objectifs de rétablissement, d’abondance et d’habitat aux fins d’une évaluation du potentiel de rétablissement (EPR). Cette analyse a démontré que le chat-fou du Nord est plus sensible aux perturbations qui touchent la survie des juvéniles. L’analyse de la viabilité des populations a permis de déterminer les objectifs de rétablissement possibles. La viabilité de la population (c.-à-d., une population autosuffisante à long terme) peut être atteinte avec une population d’environ 97 000 adultes et juvéniles (intervalle de confiance [IC] : 29 000 à 230 000) avec une probabilité de persistance de 99 % sur 100 ans. Une telle population aurait besoin d’environ 1 700 hectares dans la rivière Détroit, 1 900 hectares dans la rivière Sainte-Claire et 1 600 hectares dans la rivière Thames.
