L’effet de la pandémie sur l’état de santé mentale et la consommation des personnes étudiantes fréquentant un établissement postsecondaire en situation minoritaire francophone

Abstract
Cet article descriptif s’intéresse à l’effet de la pandémie sur la santé mentale, les stratégies d’adaptation et la consommation de drogues et d’alcool des personnes étudiantes inscrites dans un programme postsecondaire francophone en contexte linguistique minoritaire au Manitoba. Un sondage a été réalisé en novembre 2018 et en novembre 2020. Les résultats révèlent que l’état de santé mentale de la population étudiante s’est détérioré pendant la pandémie, avec une proportion importante de personnes répondantes rapportant être déprimées, manquer de sommeil et faire de l’anxiété la plupart du temps ou toujours. Bien que plusieurs adoptent de saines habitudes de vie, une proportion importante a pris des médicaments sur ordonnance et peu font appel aux services de counseling. La prévalence de consommation d’alcool et d’alcool excessive ( binge ) au cours du dernier mois était à la baisse pendant la pandémie, mais est restée stable pour le cannabis pour la même période de collecte. La fréquence de consommation d’alcool, d’alcool excessive, de boissons énergisantes et de cannabis était plus élevée chez les hommes consommateurs et surtout ceux de la cohorte de 2020. La promotion de bonnes pratiques pour atteindre et maintenir le bienêtre est d’une importance particulière en milieu postsecondaire, milieu privilégié pour de telles initiatives.
