Abstract
Cet article présente une étude qualitative des expériences d’individus issus des pays du Sud global occupant des postes à responsabilité au sein d’organismes communautaires oeuvrant dans des quartiers défavorisés de Montréal, Québec. L’analyse souligne la dimension politique des expériences à l’étude tout en les situant dans le processus de formation de ce qu’Antonio Gramsci appelle l’État intégral. L’étude remet en question l’étiquette de passivité qui est souvent apposée sur la population issue de l’immigration et met en évidence la complexité liée à leur participation dans le milieu analysé. Les conclusions pointent vers une participation importante de ces populations, malgré des défis tels que le racisme systémique, les rapports de pouvoir à l’échelle locale et les jeux d’intérêts entre organismes dans un contexte caractérisé par la concurrence pour le financement de l’État.
