Abstract
総合講座「メディアとしての身体」二年目は、前年に引き続いて国文学者や外国文学者から歴史学者、文化人類学者、 SF＆ファンタジー研究家、美術出版系編集者、さらには劇作家や音楽家まで多様なゲスト講師を招聘し、コーディネータ陣との間に緊密な討論の空間を構築した。とりわけ代表者は高山宏との対談集『マニエリスム談義』では欧米のマニエリスム芸術に現れる身体を多角的に考察し、単著『パラノイドの帝国』ではトランプ政権におけるアメリカがいかに 1960年代以降の身体と精神のアンバランスを継承しているかを検証した。学会関連では、 9月にカナダのヴィクトリア大学で行われたトランスヒューマニズムの見地より「人外」を問い直す国際会議 "The Nonhuman in Japanese Culture and Society: Spirits, Animals, Technology"で基調講演 "Ghosts in the City: Towards the Aesthetics of Cyber-Picturesque"を行ったが、それは申請者が同年、スイスの学術雑誌 ARTSのサイバーパンク特集号 "Cyberpunk in a Transnational Context"の監修を務めたこととも連動している。また、2018年はイギリス・ロマン派を代表し今日の SFの起源と言われ、身体論のみならず人間主義を考えるには不可欠の作家メアリ・シェリーの長編小説『フランケンシュタイン』刊行二百周年に当たっていたことにより、申請者は 10月に上智大学で開かれた同書を讃える国際シンポジウム"The Humanity and the Post-Human in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein"に出席し、北米からのパネリストとともに徹底討議することにより、人体のみならず人工身体、ひいては人工知能の孕む現代的意義について、ますます理解を深めることになった。さらには、この総合講座は過去にその成果を4冊ほど刊行してきたが、この度、久々に現在のテーマを一冊の共同研究にまとめる計画が浮上し、現在、出版社も得て、実現に向けて邁進しているところである。 In 2018 our interdisciplinary program "I Sing the Body Cybernetic" invited a number of distinguished guests including literary scholars, historians, anthropologists, SF & Fantasy critics, art book editor, playwright, and even rock'n'roll musician. Constructing a fruitful discussion with them, we coordinators could further develop our understanding of the interactions between media and body criticism. As far as the leader of the project is concerned, he published a couple of books related with our common topic: The Critique of Mannerist Reason (co-written with Hiroshi Takayama) and The Paranoid's Empire. What is more, he gave a keynote lecture at the International Conference "The Nonhuman in Japanese Culture and Society: Spirits, Animals, Technology" held at the University of Victoria, Canada and a plenary lecture at the International Symposium "The Humanity and the Post-Human in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" held at Sophia University, Tokyo. Now we also plan to publish a joint work on the topic, inviting our guest speakers to contribute essays to the project.
