Der fiktive Stipendienantrag eines Studenten der Informationswissenschaft im Jahr 2114 ist zugleich Satire und Zeitdiagnose. In Form einer Rückschau auf das Jahrhundert seit 2014 entwirft der Erzähler eine anarchisch-dystopische Zukunft, in der genetische Wissensimplantation das klassische Studium verdrängt hat. Doch hinter der wilden Zukunftsvision verhandelt der Text grundlegende Fragen des Bibliotheks- und Bildungswesens ebenso wie weitreichende technologische, kulturelle und politische Umbrüche. Er plädiert für die Informationswissenschaft als ernstzunehmende Disziplin — sowie dafür, dass traditionelle Bildung nicht obsolet ist.
