Abstract
Cet article s’appuie sur une thèse en travail social (inédite) et rend compte d’une partie de ses résultats. La recherche d’inspiration phénoménologique avait pour objectif d’offrir une compréhension de l’expérience vécue des étudiantes en travail social concernant la construction du sens de leur engagement en travail social. Depuis une perspective existentielle, le choix du travail social est envisagé comme une manière, pour l’étudiante, de donner un sens à son existence. Quatre (4) étudiantes au baccalauréat ont participé à un atelier autobiographique en groupe ayant pour thème le sens de l’engagement en travail social. Des entrevues semi-dirigées et un groupe de discussion ont été réalisés après l’atelier. Des extraits des récits phénoménologiques relatant l’expérience des étudiantes dans l’atelier sont présentés. Les effets de la démarche sur la (re)construction du sens de l’engagement sont également abordés de même que la pertinence de s’intéresser au sens de l’engagement en travail social en formation initiale.
