Reciprocal impact of family and business for internally displaced female entrepreneurs (511)

Abstract
This study fills research gaps by illustrating the reciprocal impact family and business have on each other with respect to internally displaced (IDP) women entrepreneurs. Reciprocal determinism vis-a-vis social learning theory (SLT) enriches understanding of this cyclical relationship and ensuing impact. A qualitative comparative design is applied via interviews with fifteen IDP Palestinian female entrepreneurs in city and refugee camp locales in Ramallah, Palestine. The results indicate instances of family support and discouragement, as well as instances of the business benefitting and hindering the family. IDP female entrepreneurs’ dedication to their families and businesses is evident. Paradoxical influences of patriarchy illustrate obstacles and privilege. Further research is required to investigate evidence of social class discrimination. Patriarchal and social class paradoxes extend upon Bhaskar’s notion of transfactuality while demonstrating the strength of reciprocal determinism in explaining this philosophical contribution.
