Abstract
I en artikel til Berlingske fra den 7. marts 2020 forklarer professor Marlene Wind det nye begreb ”Westlessness” og kommer med en række eksempler på lande i Vesten, som ifølge hende er blevet ramt af fænomenet. Ifølge hende har ”vestløshed” rod i, at man i Vesten har glemt, at demokratiet også handler om andet end flertalsvalg. Hun beskriver, hvordan fænomenet ifølge hende især er kommet til udtryk i Viktor Orbáns politik i Ungarn og retsreformerne i Polen. Hun argumenterer også for, at ”Vestløsheden” til en vis grad har slået igennem i Danmark – blandt andet når den socialdemokratiske regering gennemfører, hvad Wind kalder semi-illiberale tiltag, såsom overvågning og administrativ frakendelse af statsborgerskab. På baggrund af blandt andet disse eksempler konkluderer hun, at ”vestløsheden” trives i bedste velgående og har rod i Vesten selv.
