Abstract
1 The Concept of Nation in 21st Century Europe Abstract This thesis deals with the purely theoretical possibility of the emergence of a unified European nation (hereinafter referred to as the "European nation"), on which a European (super)state, or a European Supranational political entity similar to a state, could be based, within the framework of the European integration project, which in the first quarter of the 21st century is personified primarily by the European Union. The aim of the thesis is to find prerequisites, if fulfilled, that the European nation could emerge and at the same time to analyze the extent to which these prerequisites are fulfilled in the first quarter of the 21st century. The thesis is structured into three parts. The first part deals with the concept of a nation itself, comparing various, often contradictory, ways of perceiving it in order to outline the complexity of the national matter. Nevertheless, the first part, in its conclusion, despite the great plurality of opinions, strives to define the general prerequisites of the existence of such a nation, which could be the pillar of a state or, theoretically, of another state-like political entity.
