Abstract
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the activities and production of the Družstvo umělecké výroby Granát v Turnově in the period from its foundation in 1953 to the following two decades until 1973. The first part of the thesis briefly deals with the characteristics of Bohemia garnet as a mineral, its mining and the history of its use in the goldsmithing industry. This outlines the origins of Bohemia garnet jewellery and its tradition, which the cooperative closely follows. The interest is in the cooperative as a whole, i.e. its historical development as a manufacturing company and especially its jewellery production. The latter is divided into large- and small-scale production, its features and specifics are described in detail, using selected examples of realised jewellery and surviving designs. The sources of inspiration in history are demonstrated, but the aim is to highlight small-scale production that reflects period stylistic tendencies and carries a higher artistic value. Of interest are thus the jewellery exhibits presented by Czechoslovakia at the World Expo exhibitions in Brussels in 1958 and in Montreal in 1967, which influenced the shape of the Garnet designs.
