Abstract
Bachelor thesis Gatekeeping in the news ČT1 and TV Nova is focused on gatekeeping process in the most watched commercial television and the most watched public television. Gatekeeping is the process within which gatekeepers decide what information will not be processed as a news and, vice versa, what information will be processed and will become a news to be broadcasted in television. This process is controlled by gatekeepers on whom the decision-making processes depend. One chapter of the thesis deals with the history of researches focused on gatekeeping process and one chapter deals with the most comprehensive gatekeeping research carried out by Pamela Shoemaker. Other chapters address information sources in the Czech Republic, news values and researches focused on determination who are persons speaking in news. The practical part of the bachelor thesis is based on detailed interviews with individual gatekeepers in the ČT1 and TV Nova newsrooms. It is the aim of the bachelor thesis to map functioning of decision-making processes (who determines themes of news, who decides on replacement of a news by another one) in ČT1 and TV Nova newscast.
