« Sentir son existence » : ramifications matérialistes du <i>Discours sur le bonheur</i> d’Émilie du Châtelet

Abstract
Au cours des vingt dernières années, de nouvelles études ont mis au jour l’aspect matérialiste des oeuvres d’Émilie du Châtelet. Alors que les travaux de Whitehead, de Le Ru et de Kovács se sont respectivement penchés sur la manière dont la notion de bonheur s’incarne, chez la marquise, au sein de réflexions sur les normes de genre et les conditions matérielles permettant d’être heureux, sur les similitudes entre la pensée de La Mettrie et celle de du Châtelet, ainsi que sur sa conception de la liberté humaine, cet article explore comment sa compréhension du « sentiment d’existence » irrigue son anthropologie philosophique et, plus particulièrement, sa conception de l’illusion. À cet effet, l’article montre que l’importance accordée à ce sentiment au sein de son approche anthropologique n’est pas propre à du Châtelet, mais semble être partagée par d’autres philosophes matérialistes tels qu’Helvétius et le baron d’Holbach.
