Mentoring as a determinant process in the socioprofessional transition of pedagogical students

Abstract
This article presents findings on the challenges faced by pedagogical students during the transition from the university to the professional environment. In our view, a professionally trained mentor can facilitate the transition process, helping pedagogical students overcome the specific difficulties of a career start. The article proposes concrete solutions for those interested in continuous professional development, highlighting the essential role of mentorship and showcasing the benefits of the „Mentorship and socio-educational counseling” master's program. In this article, we emphasize our aspiration to align with the needs of the labor market by training a professional body of mentors and educational counselors, responding to the requirements of the European Qualifications Framework and the Bologna Process, and respecting the Mentorship Activity Regulation, in accordance with art. 58, paragraph (7) of the Education Code of the Republic of Moldova no. 152/2014 (Official Monitor of the Republic of Moldova, 2014, no. 319-324, art. 634). Additionally, the article includes a synthesis of European experience in the field and an analysis of similar models from the United States, Canada, and Australia, countries with well established training programs for mentors and socio-educational counselors. We are convinced that the specialists trained in the „Mentorship and socio-educational Counseling” master's program will be capable of providing support to pedagogical students during the transition phase, facilitating personal and professional development, managing socio-educational issues, and reducing the risk of maladjustment, professional burnout, and leaving the educational system.
