A Defective Branch in the 15th—16th Century Manuscript Tradition of the Slavonic Catena on the Prophets

Abstract
The article defines the circle of Ukrainian and Belorusian sources for the history of the Old Bulgarian translation of the Catena on the Prophets (over ten manuscripts dating from the 16th — beginning of the 17th century). The study shows that two manuscripts belonging to the main redaction of this text — one from the end of the 15th century (State Historical Museum, Collection of the Nikolskii Old Believer Monastery, no. 15), the other from the second quarter of the 16th century (Russian State Library, Collection of the Rogozhskoe Cemetery, no. 708) — are closely related textually, but differ in certain dialectal features. The codex Rog-708 certainly comes from the Lithuanian Rus’, probably from the Belorusian town of Pinsk. The later manuscript is not a direct copy of the earlier one, but they derive from a common protograph, which was written no later than the 15th century and had lacunae and mistakes.
