Nevezetes jelenség, hogy, míg a mohácsi vész a kortársakra is, az utódokra is egyaránt igen nagy hatást tett, sőt mai napig is eléggé általánosan tárgyalt kérdés a mohácsi vész okai, az Alföld visszahódítása, a török kiüzése, kivált pedig ennek következményei sem az akkori magyarokra nem volt hatással, sem azóta nem szokás kellőképen méltányolni. A XVIII. század elején a török végleg eltűnt Magyarországból, a kétszázados török zsarolásban meg a fölszabadító háborúk irtásaiban elnéptelenedett és elvadult Alföld visszaeurópaiasítása: gyarmatosítása, betelepítése emberrel, állattal, növénnyel, ezer meg ezer kérdést vetett fel, de ezek politikai és társadalmi közéletünket majdnem teljesen elkerülték s az irodalomhoz is csak nagykésőn és szórványos, mai napig sem méltányolt jelenségek alakjában férkőzhettek.
