本稿では、世界で初めてLRTを導入した公共交通先進地であるカナダ国アルバータ州エドモントン市の公共交通システムにおける運賃制度に焦点を当てて調査し分析することにより、問題点の考察を行った。その結果、この運賃制度は簡素であることが最たる利点である一方で、運賃収受においていくつかの問題点があることが明らかになった。また、多様な旅客の属性に応じた様々な割引運賃制度を設けることにより、市民の社会福祉に役立っていることが分かった。 今後の課題として、他都市の公共交通事業者との比較、2020 年に導入が予定されているエドモントンのICカード乗車券についての調査、原価および費用についての調査および分析、利益管理の検討が挙げられる。
