Abstract
メディア教育開発センターでは、高等教育機関におけるマルチメディア活用の促進に資するため、平成10年度にカナダ・アメリカの大学での活用事例を調査・取材し、その報告を目的としたビデオとCD-ROMを制作し、国内の高等教育機関へ配布した。本研究ノートでは、この調査・取材によって得られた高等教育でのマルチメディア活用の事例を報告している。具体的な展開から見れば、カナダ・アメリカの大学では、マルチメディアの活用は、試行錯誤のレベルを含みながらもすでに実験段階から実用段階へ進んでいるといえる。広大な国土をかかえる両国では、ネットワークの活用は将来の高等教育の戦略として不可欠なものになっている。また、高等教育の国際的な競争の時代を目前にして、マルチメディアの活用はさらに重要な役割を果たそうとしている。さらに重要なことは、ハードウェアを中心にしたマルチメディア・システムを構築することだけでなく、ソフトウェアとしての学習システムの構築、また、そこに教育内容を盛り込むための方法や課題が具体的に検討されていることである。こうした具体的な場面を知ることはわが国でのマルチメディア活用の方途をさぐる上で重要である。
