Abstract
This chapter reviews the physics of separated flow over NACA airfoils and explains how active turbulence management (ATM) can be used to delay or suppress separation and stall. After summarizing baseline separation mechanisms and key nondimensional parameters used to characterize airfoil performance (e.g., Reynolds number, Strouhal number, lift and drag coefficients), the chapter surveys common active flow-control actuators and outlines how actuation frequency, momentum input, and placement influence reattachment, wake dynamics, and aerodynamic efficiency, including the role of open- versus closed-loop control.
