Abstract
The article, based on publications in Ukrainian publications in Canada, describes the modern holidays of Canadian Ukrainians. The holidays are analyzed as evidence of intangible Slavic culture in a foreign language environment (in English and French, in general, the multicultural environment of the country of residence), as a reflection of the history of the Ukrainian diaspora and the history of Ukraine. From the point of view of differentiated perception of holiday culture, the peoples of the world considered different typology, methods and technology of preparation for Ukrainian Canadian holidays: public (academies, anniversaries, book holidays, commemoration of heroines, esteemed members of the community), calendar, religious, ceremonial, folklore, festivals , family (birthdays, weddings, etc.), holidays related to Independent Ukraine, in particular, the Day of Dignity and Freedom. The concept of modern holidays of Canadian Ukrainians compared to the content of the holidays that took place in the historical homeland. The reasons for this transformation are analyzed. The participation of members of the Ukrainian diaspora in the traditional holidays of Canada is reflected: its historical, socio-economic, cultural phenomena have objectively affected the ethnocultural events of the diaspora, including the holidays. The author's point of view is substantiated that the definition of the category of the holiday as a creative, spiritual phenomenon of human activity is derived from the peculiarities of the historical epoch, as its concept and model directly depend on the differentiation of changes in the civilized world. approaches and research, to ask the question of a generalized, comprehensive definition of the holiday (there are hundreds of types of holidays) for all time periods. However, in the Ukrainian language the definition of the concept of the holiday already follows from the etymology of the word. Given the importance of the issue raised the issue of creating a separate scientific field in a special historical discipline - geortology, namely - the history of Ukrainian holidays abroad as evidence of Slavic culture. This will allow not only to create a more comprehensive, complete picture of the history of Ukrainian diasporas, their viability and creativity of immigration communities, the driving forces of their holiday activities, but also to introduce into cultural and scientific circulation new customs, new holidays, new terminology and their modifications. to reveal the panorama of the activity of hundreds of its devotees, professionals and amateurs devoted to Ukraine, who took on the laborious and important work of organizing folk, religious, scientific, etc. celebrations and names of which are little known today in Canada and completely unknown in Ukraine, as well as their significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture and preservation of national identity.
