La diversité est désormais appréhendée comme une pluralité de dimensions — linguistiques, culturelles, sociales ou liées au handicap — plutôt que seulement sous l’angle des besoins particuliers. Or, dans un contexte social et scolaire qui se diversifie de plus en plus vite, notamment sur le plan ethnoculturel et social, la diversité chez le corps enseignant n’est toujours pas représentative de celle en salle de classe. Un corps enseignant représentatif de cette diversité serait bénéfique à plusieurs niveaux, notamment pour le sentiment d’appartenance des élèves, et permettrait d’appuyer le mandat d’inclusion pour toutes les personnes de la société. Cet état des lieux de la littérature scientifique a pour objectif d’identifier les facilitateurs et les obstacles ayant eu des retombées sur le parcours de personnes ayant fait des études en éducation ou oeuvrant dans les systèmes scolaires. Selon une perspective écosystémique, les obstacles (p.ex. les politiques et obstacles macrosystémiques) semblent principalement liés au macrosystème, alors que les facilitateurs (p.ex. les facteurs personnels et l’entourage comme source d’appui) semblent liés au micro et mésosystème. Plus d’études sur le sujet sont nécessaires, particulièrement en contexte francophone canadien.
