Abstract
Résumé La mobilisation des « consomm’acteurs », considérée comme une nouvelle forme d’engagement politique par la « nouvelle gauche » au début du 21e siècle, trouve partiellement ses origines un siècle auparavant dans la culture politique démocrate-chrétienne et plus particulièrement dans une ligue de femmes catholiques se considérant responsables, en tant que consommatrices, des conditions de travail des ouvriers et des employés. Il s’agit de la Ligue sociale d’acheteurs, créée à Paris en 1902. Même si la comparaison entre des organisations à bien des égards très différentes doit être effectuée avec prudence, elle semble pertinente en ce qui concerne la capacité des opposants à la société de consommation à détourner les outils de communication de masse ou la publicité pour exprimer leur point de vue critique. L’histoire de cette ligue mixte, mais fondée sur un militantisme féminin, se situe au carrefour de l’histoire de la consommation, du catholicisme social, des réformateurs sociaux, des associations féminines et de l’américanisation.
