Abstract
This collection depicts the journey of two brave Conquistadors to the new land where they explore the rolling plains of the Texas Panhandle, and the sandy loams of the Canadian River. It describes the humble beginnings of a new town thriving on railroad dreams, and portrays the transformation of settlement to community with personal detail. The poems embrace the communal expression of a small town like a religion. There are moments of whispered prayer, and explosions of worship that build up to a hallowed understanding of community, and the charms of a small town like Canadian, Texas.
