Abstract
Trade policy is all about a country doing business with the rest of the world. The United States influences overall international trade through its trade policies as a major economic force. This paper explores how U.S. trade policy has developed, its key trade relationships and current challenges being faced. The aim of this research paper is to provide a clear understanding of how U.S. trade policy works and how it impacts its other global partners. The present study provides complete analysis of the trade policy of the United States with the rest of the world. It examines the historical evolution of U.S. trade policy, its theoretical foundations, major bilateral and multilateral trade relationships, sector-wise impact and the increasing use of trade policy as a geopolitical tool being used by US. Special emphasis has been laid on key trade partners of US namely China, the European Union, India, Canada and Mexico. The study is based on secondary data collected from official publications, reports of international organizations and existing research. The paper concludes that U.S. trade policy represents a "strategic blend of economic nationalism, selective liberalization and geopolitical positioning, with far-reaching implications for the global trading system and developing economies".
