À la suite du don d’un fonds d’archives sur le surtitrage du français vers l’anglais à Toronto, l’équipe du projet de recherche Le surtitrage : génétique, conservation et utilisation a été appelée à interroger sa responsabilité quant au devoir de mémoire qui concerne les pratiques culturelles donnant un résultat performatif dans les communautés de langue officielle en situation minoritaire au Canada. Composée d’une chercheuse en traduction théâtrale, d’une archiviste et d’une étudiante en intégration des connaissances, l’équipe en question examine la distinction importante entre l’archivage et l’archivistique, distinction qui traverse le geste d’archiver qu’elle est appelée à pratiquer. Elle s’attarde sur les aspects techniques, managériaux et sociaux de sa démarche d’archivage, ainsi que sur les limites de l’application des principes de gestion des données. Elle décrit ainsi une expérience concentrée et peut-être transférable de l’archivage des arts de la scène issus des communautés minoritaires à l’ère numérique.
