La cause de la « libération animale » semble exercer sur l’intelligentsia occidentale une irrésistible attraction. Toutefois, alors que les intellectuels « libérateurs » prétendent s’inscrire dans la lutte contre l’oppression, on peut penser qu’ils collaborent au contraire au développement de l’agro-industrie internationale. Libérateurs des animaux et promoteurs des systèmes de « productions animales » ont en effet en commun la volonté de consacrer la rupture entre nous et les animaux. Pour les uns comme pour les autres, la richesse et la beauté de notre relation avec les animaux d’élevage est occultée. Pourtant, moins que de libérer les animaux du travail, il s’agit plutôt, pour les animaux comme pour nous-mêmes, de redonner au travail sa dimension émancipatrice.
