Abstract
Dr. Nicholas E. Hagemeier, vice provost for research and chief research officer at East Tennessee State University (VPR/CRO), is one of eight research leaders from across the country selected for the Association of Public & Land Grant Universities’ (APLU) Research Leader Fellowship Program. Hagemeier will join the sixth cohort of the program, which is sponsored by the APLU Council on Research (COR). The year-long fellowship helps rising research leaders to gain expertise outside of their respective portfolios and fosters connections with COR’s extensive network of senior research officers through site visits and participation in COR meetings. “The fellows chosen for the 2023 cohort are the future leaders in the nation’s public universities,” said Lynne Chronister, chair of the APLU Council on Research and vice president for Research and Economic Development at the University of South Alabama. “The program helps broaden fellows’ exposure to research activities and advance their professional development.” As VPR/CRO for ETSU, Hagemeier’s overarching responsibility is to champion the research mission of the university. “When I began serving as VPR and establishing a network of peers at other institutions, it became very evident that the APLU COR Research Leader Fellowship program is the gold standard for research leadership development,” Hagemeier said. “I have been looking forward to applying to this program since ETSU obtained APLU membership last year. I am appreciative of the support President Dr. Brian Noland and Provost Dr. Kimberly D. McCorkle provided in my applying to the program, and I am grateful to have been selected in the sixth cohort. Most importantly, I’m excited to learn from others and bring innovative ideas and practices back to ETSU.” Hagemeier will be inducted later this month at a Joint COR-CII Summer Meeting taking place at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. “Dr. Hagemeier continues to move ETSU forward in its research mission, and this fellowship will provide him with additional opportunities to expand our research impact and presence,” said McCorkle, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs.
