Cryptic oxygen in the Precambrian : redox proxies and isotopic perspectives L’émergence de la photosynthèse oxygénique et l’oxygénation des environnements de surface constituent des étapes clés de l’histoire de la Terre. Longtemps associée exclusivement au Grand Événement d’Oxydation (GEO, ~2,4 Ga), la production d’oxygène est aujourd’hui envisagée comme ayant débuté plus tôt, sous forme de processus localisés et transitoires. Des proxys géochimiques et isotopiques ainsi que des contraintes géochronologiques suggèrent en effet l’existence d’oasis d’oxygène avant le GEO, bien que leur impact global reste incertain. Cette thèse examine l’évolution de l’altération continentale, des flux nutritifs et des conditions redox du Paléoarchéen au Paléoprotérozoïque à travers trois études de cas. Le Groupe de Moodies (~3,2 Ga, Afrique du Sud) révèle des signaux géochimiques primaires bien préservés, dominés par la provenance sédimentaire, mais peu d’indices d’oxydation marquée. La plate¬forme carbonatée de Red Lake (~2,9 Ga, Canada) documente une oasis d’oxygène précoce, avec une composition isotopique du molybdène indiquant un réservoir marin restreint, dominé par les flux hydrothermaux. Enfin, la Formation de Lephala (~2,3 Ga, Botswana) enregistre la formation de nodules de manganèse, suivie d’une altération oxydante tardive, soulignant la préservation différentielle des systèmes isotopiques. Ces résultats montrent que l’oxygénation précoce s’est produite dans des niches redox localisées, nécessitant des approches multiproxys intégrées pour en contraindre l’évolution et l’impact environnemental.
